Bunheads by Sophie Flack Archetypes

The Quest:  Hannah wants to make it into the ballet world and faces many obstacles with her personal life.

The Task: Hannah must be more than perfect to accomplish who she wants to be.

The Journey: In the beginning of Hannah’s quest, she is an understudy for one of the principal dancers. Also there’s Zoe who is also the understudy. The middle is when Hannah gets thrown into the performance, near the end Hannah has gotten a write up in the newspaper.

Departure: As much as Hannah wants to hang out with Jacob she can’t because she can’t get away form her ballet life.

Initiation: Hannah was able to talk to a non-dancer; this helped her see a world outside of dance. Also being able to perform without notice is one of her first steps of becoming a more mature dancer.

Road of Trials: Her friends were always there for her; they push her to be a better dancer.
Innermost care: Hasn’t occurred in book.

Return and reintegration with society: Hasn’t occurred in book.

Wide-eyed innocent hero: Hannah                              Threshold Guardian: Zoe

Star-Crossed lovers: Jacob and Hannah                      Herald: Otto

The Naïve: Daisy                                                        The Average Character: Bea

Mentor: Hannah/ Otto. There are limited characters so each character can be counted for multiple things. Hannah is her own mentor because she has to face things on her own. Otto is also a mentor because he pushes his dancers.

Mother figure: Bea is the mother figure because she is one for those friends who has wisdom.

Shape shifter: Daisy is a shape shifter because she is the youngest out of all the girls and she doesn’t know what to expect. So she keeps on changing. For example she changes her diet many times.

Shadow: Zoe is the shadow because she only cares about herself.

Trickster: Matt tends to play people.

The Fairy Godmother: No one.

The Scapegoat: Daisy is the scapegoat because she is a naïve character.

Final View

What I see between Zoe and Hannah is almost tough love. It’s weird because they are somewhat friends. Zoe tends to be rude and is biased. She tries to bring people down for her good. Although that keeps Hannah on her toes. Hannah helps Zoe by always being a threat.
